Additional Optional Slides

News Slides.

Slides containing news headlines (only) from the ABC. Shorter news headlines are shown as single lines of text with up to three headlines per slide whilst longer headlines are shown over two lines with two dual-line headlines per slide. News slides can be turned off and when turned on are shown once per rotation.

Weather and UV Warning Slides.

Slides containing weather information for the next 24 hours taken from the Bureau of Meteorology. Whilst showing relevant information about the weather forecast, including the forecast top temperature for tomorrow, the weather slides also contain the highest expected UV levels and the hours of the day whereby going outside should be avoided. This is critically important information for older people and their carers. Weather slides can be turned off if required.

Quiz Slides.

Quiz slides can optionally be turned on at any time. Once invoked, a new quiz question will be displayed each hour (once during each rotation) between the hours of 8am through 8pm. The answer will be shown in the next hour. Therefore, the current hour’s quiz question will be shown in the first rotation, and then the answer to the previous question will be shown in the next rotation. The process then repeats until the hour expires and the new quiz question is introduced.

Unlike many cloud based quiz offerings, UIG’s quiz question are Australian based making the questions more relevant. The quiz questions are designed for the benefit of the aged care residents – even those who migrated to Australia will be able to take part in the quiz questions as the topics are mainly based upon Australian current affairs, culture, politics and sport post WW1.

Quiz rotation is as follows:

Rotation SequenceQuiz Slide
Initial odd numbered sequenceThis hour’s question
Initial even numbered sequence
Subsequent odd numbered sequencesThis hour’s question
Subsequent even numbered sequencesLast hour’s answer

By asking new questions every hour and displaying the answers in the subsequent hour, residents are more likely to engage with the service. 11 unique questions are asked each day.
